BRAD MUZZARELLI: 38 YEARS OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS

My name is Ron Muzzarelli, I am the brother of one amazing Special Olympian, Brad "Muzzy" Muzzarelli. My brother participated in the very first Special Olympics held at Soldier Field in 1968 and competed in the softball throw. During his 38 years of participation, Brad competed in many different events such as bowling, basketball, and track and field, but swimming was his specialty. To my knowledge, he was the first athlete in Special Olympics to ever swim the butterfly stroke and the 100 yard individual medley. Brad was honored to be selected to represent Illinois and participate in two different International competitions. He was even brave enough to participate in the Polar Plunge. I lost my brother to cancer in June of 2009, but two weeks before he died, he was competing in Bocce at the Illinois State Special Olympics games where he won a gold and a silver medal. My brother touched many lives through Special Olympics and was a great example of what being an athlete is all about.

About Me:

I, along with my mother, my wife, and my kids are just a proud family of a very special athlete.
