“I love the idea of finding yourself through sport. It is very inspiring to me.” Wise words from Russian student Ksenia Kaminskaya made on a recent visit to Special Olympics Inc. HQ in Washington D.C. Ksenia was one of a number of exchange students who were welcomed to the world of Special Olympics, meeting staff and athletes. The students from Yekaterinburg, Russia, were part of a delegation from the Eurasia Foundation’s student media project. They came to the U.S. to learn more about how people with intellectual disabilities are integrated into society. The students will now produce an online-based television program promoting awareness for those with disabilities with an episode dedicated to Special Olympics. Special Olympics’ Olga Yakimakho said: “We hope this is the beginning of good collaboration between Special Olympics and Eurasia Foundation in Russia and beyond. It is a perfect time to join forces to bring more inclusion to schools and communities.”
