Play Unified Brings Home Gold

The Special Olympics Belgium Play Unified campaign is racking up awards after awards! The groundbreaking campaign has received one of the international marketing industry’s highest accolades by taking home an Effie Gold Award. The Effie Awards are known globally as the pre-eminent award in the marketing and advertising industry. The Special Olympics Belgium Play Unified campaign saw six athletes with intellectual disabilities publicly challenge their famous mainstream counterparts to a sporting showdown. The campaign, which launched in 2016 with the support of LDV United, was an instant hit, generating huge media and public interest and also establishing more than 100 Play Unified sport clubs across Belgium. Special Olympics Belgium CEO Zehra Sayin commented on the win: “We are proud to show the marketing and communication effectiveness of Play Unified! Special Olympics is growing, the perceptions are changing, people are actively supporting the inclusion of the athletes in Belgium.”
