The celebrations of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of Special Olympics, at Special Olympics Togo spanned two days of events, with a focus on family awareness and the Young Athletes program.
A special showcase was staged for parents and family members on the work of Special Olympics Togo, and the benefits of sport for their Young Athletes. Traditional Togolese artistic groups performed, and Special Olympics Togo’s very own Athlete Leader Adotevi Elikplim Adokoe shared his singing talents with the audience.
It was the Young Athletes, however, who stole the show in their demonstration of their physical skills and joy of movement.
A special moment in the event was the inspirational message of Special Olympics Togo’s very first athlete, Ogunmola Abdoul Wahid, who passed his baccalaureate diploma this year.
The 5-a-side Unified Football matches were also a success.
Overall, the event attracted 20 new volunteers to register and join in partnership with the Special Olympics movement in Togo, following the spirit of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
