Social Justice and Environmental Justice join at Côte d’Ivoire EKS Day

Special Olympics athletes and children from the local Toumanguié village were invited to watch the puppet masters sketch on environmental awareness together, under the “Play Unified” theme of the EKS Day event, made possible with the support of SIFCA Foundation.
As well as a Unified Football Tournament, young and old of all abilities viewed an awareness-raising sketch given by puppeteers on the importance of their environment, and held a tree-planting event. Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day is celebrated annually by Special Olympics to honor the vision of its founder. Traditional leaders and chiefs, the local imam, and over 50 youth volunteers from SIFCA Foundation joined together for the day’s large-scale events. Like many other Special Olympics Côte d’Ivoire activities, this year’s EKS Memorial Day was hosted, supported and attended by the SIFCA Foundation. Their staff also participated as players in the Unified Football matches. SIFCA hosted the event at their industry plant premises in Toumanguié, in the Aboisso region, about 150km from Côte d’Ivoire’s capital city, Abidjan. Athletes and parents shared their story of what the movement of Eunice Kennedy Shriver has done for their lives, before ending the day in style with a dance party. The dance troop included giraffes, buck and elephants in costume.
