Unified "Champions of Change" in Uganda

Special Olympics Uganda hosted a 5 day Camp Shriver in celebration of EKS Day. The camp was held at the Kumi University, in the eastern region of Uganda and aimed to provide a Unified® Sports experience for young people with and without an intellectual disability to learn new sports skills, promote physical fitness, and offer social inclusion. The camp focused on the development of lasting positive friendships while encouraging all participants to be “champions of change” through leadership and education opportunities. The pride and joy expressed by athletes as they paraded through the city to the stadium could not go unnoticed. A total of 50 athletes, 46 partners, 34 youth volunteers and 24 coaches participated to make the event a huge success. At the stadium and address was made about KKS and the Special Olympics movement. The participants then competed in volley ball, this was followed by the signing of the EKS banner; a symbol of partnership and commitment the Special Olympics vision.
