'Sport and Development - Where the two Worlds Meet' Discussion Forum at the historic Oak Room of the Mansion House, (Residence of Dublin's Lord Mayor) on September 10th 2015
To celebrate the European Week of Sport Sept 7th-13th and to mark 2015 Year of Development Special Olympics Europe Eurasia hosted a discussion forum entitled 'Sport and Development-Where the two Worlds Meet' in Dublin on Sept 10th. The Forum brought together leading figures from the world of sport, development and research to showcase the significance of collaboration between sport and development organisations and to highlight the potential for real community impact through partnerships. Prof Roy McConkey, Emeritus Professor of Developmental Disabilities at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland was keynote speaker. Prof McConkey has worked in the field of intellectual disability for over 40 years and has authored over 15 books and published nearly 200 book chapters and research papers in key journals. All those present encouraged further debate and forums on the topic of how sport and development can bring about change in the developing world by working together more closely.
