"I did it! I broke my personal record and won gold!" Marek Janúch, a Special Olympics Slovakia athlete from Považská Bystrica was one of 63 swimmers to take part in the recent Special Olympics National Swimming Championship in Slovakia. The competition welcomed swimmers from across Slovakia to what was the eleventh annual event. It was supported by Comenius University's Faculty of Sport and Physical Education and the Slovakian Swimming Federation, who provided a professional referee team to oversee the event. Volunteers from the university and local schools made sure the event ran smoothly. Special Olympics Slovakia National Director Eva Gazova said that the event was a step forward. “I have seen such progress here today that every involved can be proud about. Everybody had fun, made new friends, broke personal records. We are very satisfied with the event and it will encourage the program to move forward."
