Water Day in Liechtenstein

Special Olympics Liechtenstein organized Water Day on 24 November 2014. Thirty athletes of all ages had a great time splashing, bobbing and kicking their way through exercises, competitions, games and stations in the local public pool in Schaan. Teachers, parents and coaches lined the sides of the pool to cheer all participants. “This is our biggest swimming event and it was awesome. Our swimmers train all year and Water Day gives them the chance to show what they can do,” said Philipp Ott, sports coordinator, Special Olympics Liechtenstein. Before the fun began, the swimmers were warmly welcomed by new board member Marco Buchel and then watched synchronized swimming team SC Flos Buchs perform. Activities as part of the Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Program (MATP) were included in the event for athletes with severe or profound intellectual disabilities, including those with significant physical disabilities. This is the third Water Day organized by Special Olympics Liechtenstein.
